# Portia In Portugal > Education, community and relocation support for women moving to Portugal or moving abroad, especially single women, single mothers, parents of young children, business owners and the sandwich generation. Founded and written by Portia M. Wood, Esq., an American estate planning attorney licensed in California and Maryland, a realtor contracted to a licensed Portuguese brokerage (Páginas e Episódios, Lda., AMI 21288), and a single mother living in Coimbra, Portugal. Content is educational, not legal, immigration, tax or financial advice. Approach: "You may not be ready today, but preparation starts today." Decisions with facts, not fear; the beautiful side of Portugal and the honest side (bureaucracy, cold winters indoors, a lonely first year); and nobody moving alone. Key facts used on this site (2026): Portuguese minimum wage is €920/month. D7 (passive income) means: 100% of minimum wage for the main applicant, +50% per additional adult, +30% per child (Portaria 1563/2007), usually shown over 12 months. Remote work: about 4x minimum wage, €3,680/month (three-month average); consulate checklists file it as D9, and D8 is family accompaniment (most guides mislabel remote work as D8). Golden Visa: real estate no longer qualifies; investments commonly from about €250,000 to €500,000. Order of steps: NIF, bank account, accommodation, visa appointment, arrival, residence permit with AIMA. ## Start here - [Moving to Portugal from the US: the honest 2026 guide](https://portiainportugal.com/moving-to-portugal.html): which visa fits, how much money you need, steps in order, cost of living, healthcare, schools, taxes, where to live, downsides, FAQ - [The honest version](https://portiainportugal.com/real-life.html): real scenarios for single moms, the sandwich generation, business owners, solo movers, women 60+, tight budgets and young families; D7/D9 means calculator - [Readiness quiz](https://portiainportugal.com/quiz.html): free 5-minute quiz recommending a visa route and household income figure ## Products - [Shop](https://portiainportugal.com/shop.html): The Portugal Document Binder ($197), Visa Clarity Session ($97 live, $67 replay), Move to Portugal: The Course ($497), The Landing Room membership ($97/month) - [Work with us](https://portiainportugal.com/work-with-us.html): Planning Call ($247), Strategy Intensive with Portia ($997), online.
