Terms, licence and disclaimers

What you are buying, and what you are not.

These terms apply to every product and service sold under the Portia In Portugal name: the downloads, the courses, the live sessions, the membership, the calls, the planning trips, the retreat and the concierge. They are written to be read, not skimmed, because the parts that matter most are the ones people assume.

Version 1.0, effective 23 September 2026. Seller: Black Trust Fund Kids, LLC.

The short version

You are buying a licence to use educational material and relocation support, not ownership of it, and not legal advice. Portia M. Wood is a lawyer licensed in California and Maryland. She is not an immigration lawyer, she is not a Portuguese lawyer, and buying anything here does not make her, or anyone on her team, your lawyer. Legal representation, in the United States or in Portugal, is not included in any product or service and is a separate engagement with separate counsel. Rules change; verify anything you are about to act on. Instant downloads are final once delivered. The Course has a 14-day guarantee. Live sessions can be cancelled up to 48 hours before.

1. Who you are contracting with

Products and services under the Portia In Portugal name are sold by Black Trust Fund Kids, LLC (the "Seller", "we", "us"). Portia M. Wood, Esq. writes the educational material and leads the services. Payments are processed through Kajabi and its payment providers; the Seller does not store your card details. Where these terms say "you", they mean the person who made the purchase and, for a family product, the members of that person's household named at purchase.

Purchases from the Seller are a contract between you and Black Trust Fund Kids, LLC. They are not a contract with Wood Legal Group, LLP, and nothing you buy here is a legal service of that firm.

2. Licence, not ownership

When you buy a download, a course, a replay, a membership or any other content from us, you are buying a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use that content for your own household's move to, or life in, Portugal. You do not acquire ownership of the content, the files, the templates, the scripts or any part of them. Ownership, copyright and all other intellectual property remain with the Seller and its licensors.

What the licence lets you do

  • Read, watch and use the content for yourself and the members of your household.
  • Print copies of the downloads for your own use, and fill in the templates for your own applications.
  • Keep the files you have downloaded for as long as you like, even after a membership ends.

What the licence does not let you do

  • Share, forward, post, upload, sell, lend or give the files or your login to anyone outside your household, including in group chats, forums, shared drives or social media.
  • Copy or adapt the content into your own guide, course, service, newsletter or product, whether paid or free, or use it to train or prompt an AI system for those purposes.
  • Remove the copyright notice, the disclaimers or the source citations from any page.
  • Use the content to advise, consult for, or prepare applications for other people for money.

A licence bought for one household is one licence. If you want to use the content to help clients of your own business, write to us about a professional licence instead. If you breach the licence we may end your access without refund and pursue the remedies the law gives us.

3. Education, not legal advice

Every download, course, session, replay, membership resource, call and written plan we sell is educational material. It explains how the Portuguese system works, what the rules say, and what documents and steps people generally need. It is not legal advice, immigration advice, tax advice or financial advice, and it is not a recommendation about which route you personally should take.

Portia M. Wood is an attorney licensed to practise in California and Maryland. She is not an immigration lawyer, she is not licensed in Portugal, and she is not your lawyer. Buying a product, attending a session, joining the membership, booking a call or hiring the relocation team does not create an attorney-client relationship with her, with the Seller, with Wood Legal Group, LLP, or with anyone on the team. Nothing you send us is protected by attorney-client privilege.

Members of the relocation team are not lawyers unless expressly stated, and none of them give legal advice. Where a member of the team happens to hold a professional qualification, they do not act in that capacity for you under these terms.

4. Legal representation is separate and not included

If your situation needs a lawyer, in the United States or in Portugal, that representation is not included in any product or service covered by these terms, at any price. It is a separate engagement with separate counsel, under a separate written agreement, with its own fees. We will tell you when we think you need one and, where we can, help you find one. A referral is not a recommendation that you will be accepted as a client, and we are not responsible for the advice or work of any lawyer, accountant, translator or other professional you engage, whether or not we introduced them.

5. No guaranteed outcome

Visas, residence permits, bank accounts, leases, school places, grants and tax regimes are decided by Portuguese authorities, banks, landlords, schools and agencies, not by us. We do not and cannot guarantee that any application will be accepted, that any appointment will be available, that any account will be opened, that any grant will be paid, or that you will be admitted to any tax regime. Any example, worked figure, timeline or case described in our material is illustrative and is not a promise about your case.

6. Relocation support services

The Portugal Planning Call, the Strategy Intensive, the Landing Room, the concierge service and similar services are relocation support: information, coordination, scheduling, logistics and planning. They are delivered by the relocation team, with Portia at the helm, and they are built around the team's competence rather than any one person. Unless a service says otherwise in its own description, we do not promise that a named individual will deliver it.

The scope of each service is what its description says on the day you buy it. Concierge engagements are scoped in writing after a discovery call, and that written scope governs. Where a description lists an appointment as "booked" or "prepared", that means we book it or prepare the file for it; it does not mean we attend it with you or on your behalf unless the description says so. We cannot guarantee school admission, appointment dates or the conduct of any authority.

7. Real estate services

Property mediation in Portugal is a regulated activity. Real estate services are provided through Páginas e Episódios, Lda., AMI 21288, under Portuguese property mediation law. Portia is a contracted agent with that brokerage, not the licence holder. Property assessments, viewings and negotiation are performed under the brokerage's licence; any lease or purchase contract you are ready to sign is reviewed by the brokerage's Portuguese lawyers, who act for the brokerage's client in that transaction under their own terms. Our relocation team schedules property activity; it does not advise on property and does not give legal opinions. Buyer representation is compensated through the brokerage at completion, under a separate mediation agreement that the brokerage will provide.

8. Planning trips and the retreat

Personalised planning trips and the Portugal Move Abroad Retreat are relocation support services delivered on the ground. Their price, what is included, what is excluded (flights and travel insurance are always yours), the deposit, the balance date and the cohort minimum are stated on the offer at the time of purchase, and those statements form part of these terms. You are responsible for your own travel documents, insurance, health and conduct during the trip, and for the conduct of anyone travelling with you. We may change an itinerary for safety, weather, availability or an authority's closure, and we will substitute like for like where we can.

9. Refunds and cancellations

Instant downloads

The Portugal Document Binder, session replays and any other instant download are delivered the moment your payment clears. By completing the purchase you ask us to deliver immediately and you acknowledge that, once delivery has begun, the purchase is final and any statutory right of withdrawal that would otherwise apply is lost. If a file is corrupt or will not open we will replace it; write to us within 14 days.

Move to Portugal: The Course

Fourteen-day guarantee. If you write to us within 14 days of purchase and you have completed fewer than two modules, we refund the full price. After 14 days, or after two modules, the purchase is final. Payment plans are a commitment to the full price; refund eligibility is judged on the same rule and any refund is net of what has been paid.

Live sessions

The Visa Clarity Session and any other live event can be cancelled for a full refund up to 48 hours before it starts. Inside 48 hours, and if you miss it, you receive the replay and slides instead of a refund. If we cancel a session we refund you in full or, at your choice, move you to the next date.

The Landing Room

Monthly memberships can be cancelled at any time and end at the close of the current billing period; there are no partial refunds for the current month. Annual memberships can be cancelled within 14 days of first purchase for a full refund if the member group and vault have not been accessed; otherwise they run to the end of the year paid for.

Calls, the Intensive and concierge

A booked call or Intensive can be rescheduled once free of charge with at least 48 hours' notice. Cancellation with at least 48 hours' notice is refunded in full; later cancellations and no-shows are not. Concierge engagements are governed by their written scope, which states the deposit, the milestones and what is refundable.

Planning trips and the retreat

Deposits, balances and cohort rules are as stated on the offer. In particular, if a retreat cohort does not reach its stated minimum, you choose between moving to another date at the rate you locked or a full refund of what you have paid, with no fee. Once a cohort is confirmed and the balance is due, the offer's own cancellation schedule applies.

Your statutory rights

Nothing in this section removes rights that consumer law in your country gives you and that cannot be excluded by contract. Where such a right conflicts with this section, the right prevails.

10. Payment, access and delivery

Prices are in US dollars unless stated otherwise and include no local taxes unless the checkout shows them. Access to digital content is through your Kajabi library at the email address you purchase with; keep that email current. We may suspend access while a payment is failed or disputed, and we may end access for breach of the licence. A chargeback filed instead of writing to us first is treated as a breach; write to us and we will sort it out.

11. Updates and accuracy

Immigration rules, thresholds, fees and practice change, sometimes without notice. Every rule in our material carries the source it comes from and the date it was checked. We work hard to be accurate, and we say plainly where something is uncertain, but we do not warrant that any statement is complete or current on the day you read it, and you must verify anything you are about to act on against the source before you act. We may issue new editions; buying one edition does not entitle you to the next unless the product says so. Membership resources are updated while your membership is active.

12. Your responsibilities

You are responsible for the truth of what you tell any authority, bank, landlord or school, for the documents you submit, for the decisions you make, and for the money you spend in reliance on your own reading of our material. In live sessions and the member group you agree to be civil, to keep other members' situations confidential, and not to give legal advice to other members. We may remove anyone who does not.

13. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the Seller, Portia M. Wood and the team are not liable for any indirect, consequential or special loss, or for lost profits, lost opportunity, relocation costs, visa refusals, missed deadlines, or decisions of any authority or third party, arising from your use of our products or services. Our total liability to you for any product or service is limited to the amount you paid us for it. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

14. Privacy and communications

We collect your name, email, purchase details and what you choose to tell us, and we use them to deliver what you bought, to support you and, unless you opt out, to send you our newsletter and offers. We do not sell your data. Purchase and account data are held on Kajabi under its privacy terms. Newsletter sign-ups, quiz results you choose to send us, stories and inquiries submitted on this website are stored with our database provider, Supabase, and our store and email platform, Kajabi. The Visa Match and Family Wealth Audit tools run in your browser; we record anonymous answers to improve them, and connect them to your email only if you ask us to send you the result. Conversations with the AI guide on this website are processed by our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate answers, and saved with us so we can improve them; we store a one-way hash of your network address for rate limiting, not the address itself. Please do not share passport, bank or identification numbers in the guide. The guide is an AI assistant: its answers are educational and may be wrong, and they are not legal, immigration, tax or financial advice. You can unsubscribe from marketing at any time and it will not affect your purchases. Information you share with the team about your situation is kept confidential within the team and is not shared outside it except to deliver a service you have asked for, such as an introduction you have agreed to.

15. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California. If you are a consumer, you keep any mandatory protection of the law of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your local courts where that law requires. Before either of us goes to court, we agree to try to resolve the matter in writing first.

16. Contact and changes

Questions, refund requests, licence requests and complaints go to hello@blacktrustfundkids.com. We may update these terms; the version that applies to a purchase is the one in force on the day you bought, and the current version is always at this address.
